Tim Hall – Marine Artist

Tim Hall

Born 1964 into a family of artists, Tim’s father Michael Hall trained at The Royal College and his mother Brenda Hall has shown at the Royal Academy and taught art for over thirty years. In addition to this Tim’s elder sister Robin Hall attended St. Martins and has a successful career painting and as President of The Royal Society of Portrait Painters.

After completing a degree in Fine Art from Kingston Art College in 1989 Tim worked in the art department of Shepperton and Pinewood film studios. Tim maintained his painting and took on some prestigious public and private commissions, notably a monumental piece for Air Products HQ, actors John Nettles, Peter Farrell and Brian Burden. In 2002 he came second in The Minto Prize at The New English Art Club ( NEAC).

In 2008 Tim founded the hugely successful ‘Cornwall Painting Holidays’ which he runs with his wife- fellow artist Henrietta Graham from their studio in Newlyn. Hall and Graham made history in 2014 by being the first ever couple to both be selected for the BP Portrait award at The National Portrait Gallery in London.

Tim was elected into The Royal Society of Marine Artists in 2015 where he has been awarded The Charles Pears Award and Sea Gallery Prize, he continues to exhibit his maritime work annually at The Mall Galleries.

This summer Tim has been selected for The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition with a monumental portrait of painter Ken Howard OBE RA, this can be seen hanging there from June until August 2018.

The Auction

The painting will be sold at a live auction on the main stage on Sunday 15th July at approx. 6.30pm. If you cannot attend the live auction, but would like to bid on the painting, you can submit a commission bid. Your bid must be the maximum amount you are willing to pay for the painting – if you are the lucky winning bidder, you may pay less than your maximum bid amount depending on other bids. How to Submit a Commission Bid

There are two ways you can submit a commission bid.

You can complete a form at the event which will be available at the Sea Salts & Sail Merchandise stall. Having completed the form, you must deposit it in the “Commission Bid Postbox” at the Merchandise stall. Form bids will be accepted up to 4.00pm on Sunday 15th July.

Alternatively, you can submit a bid by email. Send an email to enquiries@seasalts.co.uk. In the subject line put “SSS 2018 Auction Bid”. In the body of the email give: your full name (first & last names), a contact telephone number and the maximum amount (in pounds sterling) you are willing to pay for the painting. Emailed bids will be accepted up to 12:00 midnight on Saturday 14th July.

Terms & Conditions for Commission Bidding (Important – Please Read)

By submitting a commission bid, you agree you will be liable to pay the hammer price if you are the winning bidder. All required information must be provided in your bid and you agree that we can use that information for the purposes of the auction. If any required information is omitted on your form or email, your bid will not be accepted. Any bids received after the closing deadlines will not be accepted. Your bid will not be acknowledged and we will not enter into any correspondence regarding your bid. After the auction, if you are the winning bidder, we will contact you within 3 days on the telephone number you have provided to arrange payment and delivery of the painting. The painting will not be released until full payment of the hammer price has been received. If you are unable to collect the painting, we will package it and send it to you by secure courier. We will not release the name of the winning bidder. After the auction, in order to comply with UK GDPR requirements, all completed forms and emails will be removed and deleted from our records.
